HISTORY
The beginnings of Sakata Rice Snacks can be traced back to the Japanese village of Sakata where the Sato brothers began their tradition more than 50 years ago.
Producing over 100 varieties of delicious rice crackers over the years, the Sato brothers created the usu-yaki rice cracker. Known and loved by the Japanese for its fine, crispy texture, today the appeal of usu-yaki rice crackers is enjoyed by consumers in Australia and around the world.
In 1994 the Sato brothers established an offshore plant in Melbourne, Australia. Inheriting the values and tradition of the Japanese founders, the Australian team philosophy is summed up as quality, care and skill.
Producing rice crackers and rice snacks under brands such as Sakata, Snakata and Apero, Sakata Rice Snacks Australia is the market leader in rice snacks and exports product to countries including New Zealand, UK, Canada and South Africa.
In August 2005, PepsiCo acquired Sakata Rice Snacks Australia as part of their global Health and Wellness strategy.
Our new owners have reinforced the Sakata commitment to producing quality, rice based snacks to be enjoyed by consumers both in Australia and around the world.
The AUSTRALIAN TEAM
Sakata Australia has inherited the traditions and values so carefully nurtured over the years by our Japanese counterparts. Our philosophy is summed up by three words - Quality, Care, and Skill.
The Australian team hails from many different cultural backgrounds and is a true reflection of the diversity in modern Australian society. Though Sakata has grown to a size where it now employs over 200 staff, the company is committed to maintaining a close-knit working environment among its many devoted workers. Each team member is encouraged by Management to take an active part in a Continuous Improvement, where suggestions for improvement in any aspect of quality control or product development are reviewed and implemented by the team as a whole.
